Short, Maggie L. (10 May 1883 - 26 Jan 1917)

Mrs. James A. Short died at her home in the town of Washburn, Clark County, Wis., early Friday morning. She had been a patient sufferer from Tuberculosis for the past eight months. Deceased was born Maggie Leona Van Fleet, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John van Fleet, in Noble co., Ohio, May 10, 1883.

She came with her parents to Richland Co., Wis. the sprint of 1891, and then four years later came to Clark County, which has been her home ever since, until the Grim Reaper called her home Jan. 26, 1917.

She was married to James A. Short, March 3, 1904. To this union four children were born, the oldest dying in infancy, eleven years ago last December.

She leaves to mourn her death, her husband and three daughters: Gale, aged eight years, Opal, six years and baby Wanda, aged eight months, also her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Van Fleet, all of this place. Besides these she leaves two sisters, Minnie, Mrs. S.T. Beightley, of Viola, and Dora, Mrs. Joe Felser, of Milwaukee, and many other relatives and friends.

She was a member of the Shortville Presbyterian Church and kept her faith till the last. By her going this community has lost a loving friend and neighbor. She fought the battle for life until death released her from this world’s trouble. All was done for her that loving hands could do. Mrs. Emery of Viola has nursed her for four months.

The funeral was held from the house Monday morning, Rev. Pinney preaching the services. Mrs. Jess Wilding, Mrs. Chris Feutz, Mrs. James Carter and Mr. Irish rendered the music.

Those that came from away for the funeral were Elmer Van Fleet and Leon Drake of Viola, a cousin and nephew of Mrs. Short. The pallbearers were Paul Kuhn, Ed Carter, Will Stevens, Clarence Irish, Jess Wilding and Arthur Wilding.

Interment was made in the Neillsville Cemetery.

The bereaved ones have the sympathy of the entire community.
